Tonight’s drill was designed to train in a completely blacked out environment. We followed a hose in a makeshift maze throughout our fire station basement. We crawled, climbed over and under various obstacles. We also conducted a search looking for victims as we moved down the line. To keep the training as realistic as possible, the entire exercise was conducted on air utilizing our SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus).
After the training was completed, we were debriefed by chief. We then cleaned our masks, refilled our air cylinders, and swapped out batteries in all the SCBA packs in Engine 64-3. With training completed, geared cleaned and stowed, we went home.
